Job description

We are looking for a Disability Support Worker in Mount Gambier to provide consistent, person-centred support to a participant living with mental health concerns and psychosocial disability.

The role is about helping the participant feel supported in their day-to-day life while encouraging independence, choice and connection with their community. You'll need to be patient, dependable and comfortable adapting your approach depending on how the participant is feeling on the day.

Previous experience supporting people with mental health concerns is important. Experience responding calmly to challenging behaviours or changes in a participant's emotional wellbeing will also be valuable.

Tasks and responsibilities

Your support will be guided by the participant's individual needs, choices and goals. Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing one-to-one support in the participant's home and community

  • Supporting daily routines and encouraging independence

  • Helping the participant access the community and take part in activities they choose and enjoy

  • Providing social and emotional support while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries

  • Recognising changes in mood, behaviour or wellbeing and responding calmly and appropriately

  • Following the participant's support plan, routines and agreed strategies

  • Supporting appointments, errands, shopping and other everyday activities as required
