Job description

Manaaki Pathways is looking for a reliable and personable Disability Support Worker to support an adult participant living in the Dural area.

The participant is blind and is highly independent in many areas of daily life. The role is about providing the right level of support without taking over, helping the participant maintain their independence and continue doing the things that matter to them.

Support will include personal care and assistance around the home, transport and support to appointments, and accompanying the participant on social and community outings.

Building a comfortable and respectful working relationship will be especially important in this role. Due to the personal-care nature of the support, a female support worker is preferred in line with the participant's privacy and personal-care preferences, where permitted under applicable requirements.

Tasks and responsibilities

You will support the participant with day-to-day activities while encouraging independence and choice. This may include:

  • Assisting with personal care and daily routines at home, including hygiene, showering and toileting where required

  • Providing practical assistance around the home

  • Driving the participant to medical, health and other appointments

  • Supporting the participant during appointments when requested

  • Providing transport for social activities and community access

  • Supporting the participant to socialise and take part in activities they choose

  • Helping the participant safely navigate unfamiliar environments when needed

  • Being aware of accessibility and mobility requirements when planning outings

  • Communicating clearly about plans, changes and appointments

  • Providing dependable support while respecting the participant's privacy, choices and independence

  • Following Manaaki Pathways and NDIS policies, procedures and documentation requirements

Why Manaaki Pathways is a great place to work

Manaaki Pathways was founded by Shih Fen Gavala, who brings more than 7 years of hands-on experience in disability support.

Shih Fen has spent most of that time working directly with participants, supporting people day to day and seeing firsthand how important consistency, trust and the right relationship can be. Her approach is also shaped by the values of manaakitanga from her New Zealand upbringing, centred around care, dignity, kindness and looking after others.

As a small, founder-led provider, Manaaki Pathways is personal. Shih Fen stays close to both participants and support workers, and wants to build a team where people are known, supported and valued.

You’ll be joining a provider that cares about doing support properly, matching the right people together and creating genuine, long-term relationships with participants.
