Job description

BE Supports is looking for two friendly and reliable female Disability Support Workers, based on participant preference, to join our team supporting participants across Glendenning, Oakhurst and Rooty Hill.

Most of the work will focus on community participation. This means helping participants get out and about, take part in activities they enjoy, attend appointments, build confidence and independence, and stay connected with their local community.

The most important part of the role is getting to know each participant as an individual. Community participation isn't about deciding what someone should do with their day – it's about listening to what they want to do and supporting them to make it happen.

We're looking for people who are warm, dependable and easy to get along with, while also understanding the importance of professional boundaries and person-centred support.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Supporting participants to access and enjoy their local community

  • Going to social activities, appointments, shopping, cafés or recreational activities with participants

  • Helping participants work towards their individual goals and become more independent

  • Providing safe and reliable transport when required

  • Building genuine, respectful relationships with participants

  • Encouraging choice and making sure the participant remains in control of how they spend their time

  • Supporting participants with everyday tasks where required

  • Communicating clearly with participants, families and the BE Supports team

  • Completing relevant notes and reporting after shifts

  • Following individual support plans and workplace procedures

  • Responding calmly and appropriately when situations change unexpectedly
